Home Assistance Program




Out-of-date household items can make electricity bills more expensive for your home or social housing property. The Save on Energy Home Assistance Program offers free energy-efficiency upgrades for tenants and social housing providers, as well as an in-home energy assessment to help uncover more ways to save.

To be eligible you must:

Be a resident of an eligible non-profit housing property; or

Be an individual who owns, rents or leases the residence and is the primary or secondary utility account holder listed on the bill; and

Have an annual household income for the previous year (gross income of all household members aged 18 or older) that does not exceed the following eligibility limits:

Note: Effective January 1, 2018. The IESO may occasionally update the eligibility requirements as necessary.

 

You have received one of the following types of assistance for the past 12 months:

OR

You have received a Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP)grant or were part of the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP)within the past 12 months.

OR

You have qualified to participate in a natural gas low-income Demand Side Management (DSM) program during the past 12 months.

What upgrades are available through the program?

  • ENERGY STAR®-certified LED light bulbs
  • Power bars with timers
  • High-efficiency showerheads (standard and handheld)
  • Aerators (kitchen and bathroom)
  • Drying racks
  • Energy-efficient refrigerator
  • Window air conditioner
  • Additional attic or basement insulation
  • Weatherstripping around doors and windows

  • Free detailed in-home energy assessment
  • Professional installation of energy-savings measures
  • Advice on steps that can be taken to save more energy
